Private garden
22 September 2017
This new courtyard garden design and build project was completed in September 2017 in this mews located in Rathmines, Dublin 6.
The brief was to create a planted courtyard garden space with level access to the house through the newly installed full width sliding doors. Along with this, we were engaged to design a new storage and utility shed to the rear of the garden. While this storage shed was an integral part of the garden space, careful consideration was required during the design process to partially hide the shed and to provide discrete access to their front access doors.
A large patio area dominates this design, constructed to the same width as the sliding doors leading out from the property. The patio was constructed using a creative mix of Kilkenny limestone plank paving and square flags. The pathway leading to the new storage and utility sheds was constructed of plank paving. The existing perimeter walls were rendered, painted and capped with Kilkenny limestone slabs. Wall lights were also installed. Custom cedar posts combined with a stainless steel balustrade were installed to separate the main patio area from the storage & utility sheds.
The planting scheme included a specimen Japanese Maple & Olive tree with complimentary under planting of small shrubs, grasses & ferns.
