Carrickhill Rise, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin
Private garden design and build
15 July 2014
This private garden located in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin was designed and built in 2014.
The main hard landscaping feature in this design is the raised Bangkirai hardwood decking which extends from the back door to a new log cabin located towards the rear of the garden. This decking steps down to the lawn area on two sides. This hardwood deck provides the client with a choice of sitting-out areas in the garden, making the most of the garden's sunny aspect.
The garden also features a lavender hedge which complements the hardwood decking as well as adding scent to the garden. A large plant bed has been included in the design along with a specimen tree (white Birch) which acts as a focal point. A roll-out lawn has been laid and edged with a single row of Asian quartz cobble.
The unsightly oil tank has been re-located to an out-of-sight location behind the new log cabin. Two raised timber vegetable beds have also been included towards the rear of the garden. This area has been laid with a compacted hoggin gravel surface with quartz cobble edging.
The planting scheme also includes a box hedge, small ground cover shrub planting, medium sized shrubs, Lavender hedge and small specimen trees, the highlight being a Japanese Maple.
