The brief for this Garden Balcony Design Project was to increase the usable area of the decking and replace the existing steps which were narrow, slippy when wet and at an uncomfortable pitch. After looking at various options for our client the final design included an extended deck area which would wrap around the bay extension of the house. The new decking surface would be clad with IPE hardwood decking with wide bull-nose granite steps leading from the new space into the garden. By increasing the step thread length and doubling the overall step width this gave a more secure feeling while ascending and descending. The entire balcony and steps are enclosed with a frame-less glass system to give uninterrupted views down the garden.

To increase the size of the deck area we extended and strengthened the existing steel frame and constructed new supporting pillars from box steel. A granite flag landing at the base of the steps allows a nice transition on
to the lawn. The deck itself was fixed with a hidden screw system and stained with a deck oil to bring out the natural colour in the hardwood. A perfect solution for a new balcony or raised deck area.
