Front garden/driveway
13 February 2015
A primary requirement of this brief was to widen the existing driveway to facilitate comfortable off-street parking for up to two vehicles. Another of the key requirements was to create a hideaway bin store and bicycle port.
The existing hedge was retained & a low lavender hedge added to its front. A line of raised yellow granite cobbles forms the edging between the gravel driveway & all surrounding plant beds.
A bin enclosure has been created to the front of this garden with a gravel base & raised cobble edge. A steel bike support has also been installed, & the area enclosed by planting.
Low box hedging has been planted under the bay windows to soften the interface between the building & the paved area. The paved area consists of yellow granite flags with granite cobble edging. The entrance porch has been laid with a custom-made granite step & riser which complements the existing architecture & entrance doorway.
The gravel driveway has been under-laid with Nidagravel stabilising sheets to create a firm, free-draining surface for vehicular & pedestrian traffic.
The surrounding beds have been planted with specimen trees and shrubs to add maturity and year round interest. Two Bay laurels in planters elegantly frame the entrance to the house.
