Front garden & driveway
31 October 2017
This design and implementation project was completed in October 2017.
One of the key requirements of this brief was to widen the existing driveway & driveway entrance to facilitate off-street parking for up to two cars. Another of the key requirements was to address the step up to the entrance door & to introduce a variety of planting to provide both year-round and seasonal interest.
The existing driveway was widened and an apron of Portuguese granite cobbles laid at the entrance. The new pillars were laid with flat silver granite capping. The plant beds were edged with a double row of silver granite flush cobble edging. The gravel driveway have been laid with Nidagravel stabilising sheets to create a firm, free-draining surface for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. One of the standout features of this garden is the custom-made granite double step & risers at the front door. The double step has replaced a single concrete step, which has not only enhanced the beauty of the overall design, but improves safety.
Our client did not request a boundary hedge. This allowed for larger plant beds of mixed planting. The planting scheme consisted of a mix of specimens, topiary Box, grasses & herbaceous planting for seasonal colour. Specimen trees included Rhus typhina & Euonymus alatus, providing beautiful autumn colour.
